Scaling Local Authority: A Multi-Location Citation Strategy
Client: A dental group with 12 locations in the same state.

Challenges We Faced
The client had 12 locations, but none of them ranked in their specific towns due to a messy link profile:
Duplicate/Messy Citations
Every location had inconsistent NAP data across the web.
No Local Authority
The individual location pages had zero local seo backlinks; all links went to the homepage.
Competitor Dominance
Competitors in each town had links from local schools and churches.

Inefficient Process
They couldn’t manage outreach for 12 locations manually.
No Scalable Location Strategy
There was no system to build and manage location-specific citations and links efficiently across all 12 practices.

Advice for Marketers & Brand Owners
- Build links to location pages. For multi-location businesses, homepage links don’t help your “suburb” office rank. You need local links to the local page.
- Sponsor local schools. A scholarship or team sponsorship is a great way to get high-trust .edu or community links.
- Scale what works. Once we saw “school sponsorships” worked in one town, we rolled it out to all 12.
Extra Factors That Made It Work
- The .edu backlinks from the scholarship program were incredibly powerful trust signals.
- Focusing on location-specific link building (not just brand building) allowed individual offices to rank in their specific towns.
- Whitespark was essential for managing the citation cleanup at scale.
